Light manipulates volume, alters scale, and defines the atmosphere, transforming the visitor from a mere passive observer into an active participant in the spatial experience.
Far from being a neutral element, light accentuates the building's essential features, while shadow preserves privacy and introduces a captivating visual allure. It plays a structural role by revealing colors, forms, and textures, turning inert concrete into a vibrant, dynamic entity. Whether natural or artificial, lighting defines spaces, sets the mood, and highlights aesthetic qualities.
Soft, diffused sunlight, for instance, evokes serenity and a sense of welcome, while a concentrated beam draws the eye to an architectural detail or a work of art. Light defines the textures, contours, and boundaries of built surfaces, just as its calculated absence creates depth, rhythm, and visual pauses that bring dynamism to the space.
