The pilgrims
In a semi-arid region of Northeastern Brazil, specifically in the interior of the state of Ceará, a special religious pilgrimage takes place every year in July.
These pilgrimages by the faithful, a tradition of Portuguese origin, are undertaken to fulfill a vow, offer thanks, or seek a divine favor. In this sparsely populated region, pilgrims arrive from various locations on foot, or by horse, bicycle, car, or motorcycle, traveling through the night. The pilgrimages draw thousands of people to the site of devotion known as the Sanctuary of the Mother and Queen.
The program includes open-air masses, catechetical sessions, the procession returning the image of the Pilgrim Mother, and the act of consecration to Our Lady. The global origins of the devotion to the Mother and Queen, a Catholic movement, trace back to Germany on October 18, 1914, in the Schoenstatt Valley (meaning "beautiful place") in the town of Vallendar, on the banks of the Rhine River.
Os romeiros
Em uma região semiárida do Nordeste brasileiro, situada no interior do estado do Ceará, ocorre anualmente, no mês de julho, uma peregrinação religiosa especial.
Trata-se de peregrinações de fiéis, uma tradição de origem portuguesa, realizadas com o objetivo de pagar uma promessa, fazer um agradecimento ou pedir uma graça. Nessa região pouco povoada, os peregrinos chegam a pé, de cavalo, bicicleta, carro ou moto durante a noite, e vindos de diversos locais. As romarias reúnem milhares de pessoas que chegam ao espaço de devoção conhecido como Santuário da Mãe Rainha.
A programação inclui missas campais, momentos de catequese, recondução da imagem da Mãe Peregrina e a consagração a Nossa Senhora. A origem mundial da devoção à Mãe Rainha, movimento católico, aconteceu na Alemanha, no dia 18 de outubro de 1914, no vale de Schoenstatt (que significa "belo lugar"), localizado na cidade de Vallendar, às margens do rio Reno.
